Along the coastal trail between Point Lonsdale and Queenscliff, when a solid swell combines with a king tide, surprisingly large waves make their way into the coastline inside of Port Phillip Heads. These waves collide with the man-made rock wall of the trail, soaking any unwary souls who might be enjoying a stroll here. The waves then refract at high speed, erupting into the next incoming swell. When the timing of these is right, the bouncing swell connects with the incoming wave, exactly as it begins to throw onto the shallow sand. These exquisitely timed coalescences are glorious, and the flaring eruptions into the morning light are a joy to shoot, in spite of the cold winter water and strong sweep that makes for a hell of a workout. Undra is an Icelandic word, translating as ‘to wonder at, to marvel at, or to be amazed by’, all of which perfectly sums up my feelings of an image like this.
All images are printed on the highest grade fine art materials available. I’ve chosen ILFORD Gold Fibre Gloss as my go to cotton paper, and for canvas the top of the line ILFORD Galicia. All canvas prints are sealed for protection and longevity. Both mediums are museum grade, and will last a lifetime (and longer). Using a local, Geelong based fine art print lab (www.aeternalab.com), their knowledge and expertise combines with the large format Epson fine art printer, not to mention the top of the line Epson Ultrachrome inks that produce stunningly accurate and vibrant fine art prints.
