As I’ve written about before, this image has come into being essentially as a result of adjusting my expectations. I have long chased big surf. Perfect surf. Ridable surf. This was true when I used to ride waves more often, but also for a time at the beginning of my photographic evolution. But slowly over time I’ve been shedding these ‘lofty’ and insular goals, and instead learning to adapt to different conditions, and to just shut up and get my camera in the water regardless of how good the actual surf is. This image was taken on a day with next to no swell, with the wind not cooperating how I would have liked. But I got out of my own way, put the camera in the housing before the sun was up and jumped into the mouth of the Barwon River, at the foot of the path where locals and tourists and dogs all equally enjoy morning strolls. (I have come to shoot photos here relatively often, so if you see a dude with a camera housing that looks pretty extravagant for knee high waves it’s probably me - say hi!). The point being though, that the surf doesn’t need to be amazing to capture stunning, fun, unique images, just like this one!
All images are printed on the highest grade fine art materials available. I’ve chosen ILFORD Gold Fibre Gloss as my go to cotton paper, and for canvas the top of the line ILFORD Galicia. All canvas prints are sealed for protection and longevity. Both mediums are museum grade, and will last a lifetime (and longer). Using a local, Geelong based fine art print lab (www.aeternalab.com), their knowledge and expertise combines with the large format Epson fine art printer, not to mention the top of the line Epson Ultrachrome inks that produce stunningly accurate and vibrant fine art prints.
